Tekonsha’s fitment guide is wrong. So is eTrailer’s. It’s kind of baffling they haven’t fixed it yet, it’s been more than five years since the Mk 7.5 facelift. By now they should have a different part number with the correct connector and pin-out for the Alltrack and 7.5 GSW.
Below is a table of the OEM part numbers for the tail light (left side only), Tekonsha’s claim, and the reality.
NOTE: This is for the Sportwagen only. The regular short-roof Golf has different stuff going on.
2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
OEM tail light (L) | 5GM-945-095-E (Halogen) | 59G-945-093-J (LED) | |||
Tekonsha claims (wrong) | - | 118730 | |||
Tekonsha correct | 118730 OEM configuration only. See below | 118730 requires modification | |||
119250 / 119251 (inductive, no plugs or cutting) |
Some caveats:
The 118730 will not work if you have modified your rear signals to Euro style amber.
The controller only understands three inputs:
- running light (keyed off of the tiny LED on the side)
- left combo turn/brake
- right combo turn/brake.
If you're running amber rear turn signals, you need another input, or a controler that understands PWM light controllers. The 119250/119251 inductive style works.
The only difference between the 250 and 251 is how much extra stuff like fuse holders and zip ties it comes with. The controller is the same.
